Asian Control Experts Meet in Shanghai

The third Asian Control Conference, one of the world's largest international meetings of academics in this field, began in Shanghai Wednesday.

More than 500 scholars and experts in the field of automation and control participated in the event. Over half of the participants were from overseas.

The conference, entitled "21st Century-Oriented Automatic Technology," will focus on the cutting edge of control theory and new ideas and applications for automatic systems.

A major task of the conference is to emphasize the role of automatic control in society and the development of new technologies.

"It is a very important conference that will allow for the exchange of technology and information about control theory and its applications," today's "China Daily" quoted Zheng Yufan, chairman of the conference, as saying.

Among the more than 800 papers submitted to conference organizers, 597 were chosen to be presented during the 103 sessions of the conference.

The first and second conferences were held in Tokyo in 1994 and Seoul in 1997.
