Leaders Address "21st Century Forum" in Beijing

Foreign leaders, officials of international organizations, and two vice-chairmen of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) delivered speeches on topics including trade globalization at the 21st Century Forum on June 14.

Lee Kuan Yew, senior minister of Singapore said that China has shown the world the great efforts it has made to become a potential WTO member, adding that the decision will have potential economic and geo-political influence on China and the rest of the world.

John Malcolm Fraser, former prime minister of Australia, pointed out that economic globalization greatly influences the actions and decisions on governments. He said that China has provided a key example of how to keep economic stability when it succeeded in fighting devaluation of Renminbi during the Asian Financial Crisis.

Those who also delivered speeches included CPPCC vice-chairmen Song Jian and Chen Jinhua, Dr. Sven Sandatrom, executive vice- president of the World Bank, Dr. Klans Schwab, president of the World Economic Forum, and Jean Matteoli, honorary chairman of the International Association of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutes.
