Seminar on Toys Concludes in South China

A two-day seminar on the safety standards and safe production of toys concluded in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province, on June 14.

More than 200 business executives and experts from Europe, America, Hong Kong and China's inland areas attended the seminar.

Experts from world famous toy manufacturers such as MATTEL, HASBRO and LEGO exchanged views on toy safety standards with their Chinese counterparts.

China is one of the world's major toy exporters. Guangdong Province accounts for three-fourths of the nation's total toy export.

To date, China has more than 4,000 toy factories, employing 1. 3 million people.

China exported US$5.3 billion of toys last year. To ensure the high quality of toys, the State Administration for Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine and U.S. Toy Manufacturers' Association (TMA) sponsored an annual seminar starting in 1996 on the safety standards and safe production of toys.
