US Aircraft Carrier Makes Port Call to Hong Kong

The Kitty Hawk aircraft carrier of the United States arrived in Hong Kong Friday for a five-day port visit.

The 86,000-ton carrier left Yokosuka, Japan on April 11 along with the guided missile cruiser USS Chancellorsville and destroyer USS O'Brien, for a regular scheduled spring deployment to the Western Pacific.

The port call is a routine visit to provide an opportunity for rest and relaxation ashore for the ship's crews.

Commissioned in 1961, the conventionally powered USS Kitty Hawk is the oldest active ship in the United States Navy and hosts a crew of approximately 4,800 sailors.
