Housing Prices Up in China

China's real estate industry is growing steadily, according to the latest figures released Tuesday by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The housing price index in China rose to 101.85 points in April, 0.03 points more than that of March and 2.04 points less on a yearly basis.

China's real estate development enterprises have invested 129. 57 billion yuan in the first four months of this year, surging 18 percent on an annual basis, said NBS, adding that this was a major factor propelling a hike in housing prices.

China started building 66.98 million square meters of houses in the four-month period, up 33.6 percent.

China's commercial houses were sold at an average of 2,091 yuan per square meter in the four-month period, up 3.8 percent. Housing prices for Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdong reached 4,704, 3,282 and 2,864 yuan per square meter.
