India Regrets over Coup in Fiji

India said Friday that it noted with deep dismay and regret reports about the attempted coup in Fiji.

A statement of the Ministry of External Affairs said: "We are following developments in that country closely."

"We are deeply concerned about the welfare and safety of the Prime Minister and his cabinet colleagues," it added.

"We are disappointed that the democratic process in Fiji appears to have received a setback and we expect an immediate restoration of the legitimately elected government," the statement said.
