World Chinese Forum Scheduled for September

The 2000 World Chinese Forum is scheduled for September 20-21 in Qingdao, a major coastal city in east China's Shandong Province.

A source with the forum's organizing committee said that about 500 outstanding Chinese from all over the world are expected to attend the meeting.

The Forum is sponsored by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of China's State Council, China's Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, the State Council's Development Research Center, and the Shandong provincial government.

The theme of the forum will be "The 21st Century: Prospects for the Chinese Economy and Science and Technology".

Major topics will include global economy trends in the 21st century and its influence on China's economy, the development of science and technology around the world in the coming century and its influence in China, technological sector, and the impact of China's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO) on the Chinese economy.
