Guangxi to Host National Drama Festival

South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region will host the Seventh National Drama Festival in its capital of Nanning in November.

Artists from across the nation will stage 20 Chinese dramas created and performed over the past two years.

The festival, a major biennial art event, will be sponsored by the China Federation of Literature and Art Circles, the Chinese Dramatists Association and the Nanning City Government.

During the festival, which was initiated in 1987, a number of outstanding dramas will be given top national prizes with the name of a famous Chinese dramatist Cao Yu.

The event will also feature the Eighteenth Plum Blossom Awards Ceremony for China's top drama performance prizes.

Also in November, the Ninth Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival, the most prestigious in the Chinese movie business, will be held in the city.

Nanning is known for its garden landscape and booming tourism resources. Last year, the city hosted an international folk song and art festival, which will again be staged along with the drama and film festivals this year.
