Hi-tech Fire Prevention System in Use in North China
Computer simulation is now being used as a new way to prevent and control forest fires in Yanbian, a forest-heavy autonomous prefecture mainly inhabited by ethnic Korean minority in northeast China's Jilin province.
By inputting fire prevention-related information into a computer, local technicians are able to come up with a wide variety of firefighting approaches usable in a range of circumstances, according to Lan Minhu, an official in charge of forest fire control work in the prefecture.
Yanbian Prefecture plans to spread the new fire-control system to all fire departments in Jilin in the next couple of years.
With about 71 percent of its land covered by forest, Yanbian has a timber reserve of 300 million cubic meters and is rated as a major state-level forest reserve in China.
