China's First Heliport for Sea Rescue to Be Built in Shanghai
With the approval of the Ministry of Communications, Shanghai will soon begin the construction of a heliport for sea rescue in Pudong area, the first of its kind in China.
The heliport will cover an area of 120,000 sq. m., and have a 200-meter-long and 30-meter-wide runway. It will be able to accommodate 10 helicopters. The first three helicopters will be purchased by bidding internationally.
The helicopters should be able to help rescue about 20 persons aboard and can conduct rescue missions as far as 1,000 km away.
Experts believe that the heliport, once completed, will greatly reinforce the country's sea rescue work, especially for fishing ships and ocean-going vessels.
