FM Spokesman on Lee Teng-hui's Proposed Japan Visit

If Lee Teng-hui visits Japan, the incident will have serious repercussions for Sino-Japanese relations, China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao said on Thursday at a regular press conference.

He demanded that the Japanese government handle the problem with discretion when asked to comment on the report that some Japanese high-ranking political figures are preparing for Lee's Japan visit after his term as "president" is over.

Zhu said that Lee Teng-hui has long been involved in activities to create two Chinas, and has continuously eroded the friendly ties between China and other countries.

He reiterated that Lee's political activities in foreign countries are an attempt to make two Chinas, and that his actions will be condemned by the Chinese government and people.
