Shanghai Residents Have Say at People's Congress via Internet
More than 1,000 local people have sent their comments and suggestions to the Third Session of the 11th Shanghai People's Congress since a website was launched on February 14.
Suggestions deal with a large number of topics including economic reform, housing, anti-corruption, education, environmental protection and transportation.
"The old Chinese saying that he who holds no rank in a state does not discuss its policies seems out of keeping with the times now," said a Shanghainese in an e-mail. The sender suggested that Shanghai make more efforts to become an international city.
Many residents said that the website will help the people's congress improve its decision-making. Suggestions from local residents will be dealt with promptly and appropriately.
