Sci-Tech China's Telecommunication Witnesses Rapid Development

Sources say China Unicom mobile phone users are being placed at 9.31 million or 22% of the national in 1999 and that the figure will grow to 55-60 million to take a 35% of China's telecommunications market by 2005. With these there will be also 20 million data-telecommunication users, 50% of China's long-distance IP phone users and 70 million pager users to be developed under China Unicom in the projected year.

Telecommunications are being run at present in China with a total of over 100 million hand-free telephones according to China Telecom, including 21.39 million new users that had been developed in 1999. Of these, household users make up about 81.2 % to leave over 44% of new users that have been developed in the rural areas.

In addition, there are altogether 2300 websites and 17 information nets that have been set up by 68 government institutions on the Internet in China. Sources say China's E-business and long-distance education has developed smoothly.
