Thursday, February 17, 2000, updated at 13:59(GMT+8) China China to Issue White Paper on Human Rights China is to issue a white paper on its human rights later today, chronicling its achievements over the past 50 years and pledging to further improve the human rights for all its citizens. The 15,000-word white paper is entitled "Fifty Years of Progress in China's Human Rights" and will be released by the Information Office of the State Council. It consists of six parts, namely, a historical turning point in the progress of human rights in China; great achievements in the rights to subsistence and development, and economic, social and cultural rights; civil rights and political rights of citizens ensured; protection of the rights of women and children; equal rights and special protection for ethnic minorities; and the cross- century development prospects for human rights in China.
