World EU Puts 135 Mln Euro in China in Human Resources Cooperation

The European Union (EU) has injected 135 million euro into cooperation in human resources projects with China since 1995, according to Endymion Wilkinson, EU Commission Ambassador to China.

Wilkinson disclosed this at a press briefing he presided over here today, during which Chinese and European program directors explained their education and training programs, part of the cooperation.

The eight programs now underway involve higher education, business internships and manager training, vocational training, legal and judicial exchanges, intellectual property rights protection, and training for STD-HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment. A total of 110 million euro has been spent on the eight projects.

Chinese partners include the ministries of education, health, and foreign trade and economic cooperation, as well as law-enforcement and trade organizations, universities and local governments.

Another three major programs will be launched this year at a cost of more than 50 million euro: sponsoring Chinese students to study in Europe, aiding basic education in China's central-western Gansu Province, and training Chinese government officials.
