Sports China Wins Two Golds at World Cup Diving

China showed their superiority in diving by grabbing another two golds on the fourth night of the World Cup Diving at the Sydney Olympic pool on Friday.

Chinese duo Tian Liang and Huang Qiang claimed the title in the synchronized 10-meter platform final and Guo Jingjing held off her compatriot Fu Mingxia, the resurgent multiple Olympic champion, for the gold in the women's 3-meter springboard competition.

"China is the No.1 nation and will probably stay there for a while," said Australia's Chantelle Michell, who finished fourth.

Fu, 22-year-old, won a total of three gold medals at the Barcelona and Atlanta Olympics. Having achieved all there was to achieve in her sport, she retired in 1996 to read for a degree at Qinghua University, one of the famous universities of China.

But the competitive urge has come back and despite going down to Guo Friday night, Fu appears as a genuine contender again in September.

"I like it," Fu said. "I'm still young so I should take the opportunity to dive."
