Thursday, January 27, 2000, updated at 20:25(GMT+8) Sports Ba Te'er Leads Beijing Ducks Past Nanjing Army Chinese star center Ba Te'er had 58 points and 16 rebounds to inspire Beijing Ducks to a 99-81 victory over Nanjing Army in the 20th round of China's professional basketball league in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province. In the first quarter, both teams appeared slow to start and shot a low percentage from the field. Ba Te'er showed his strength near the hoop in the second quarter and helped the Ducks to lead at half-time 59-40. The Army threw their best to smother Ba Te'er in the second half but the efforts turned out to be futile. Nanjing was still one of the two teams which collected just one victory against 19 defeats so far. The other team was Hubei Mei'erya, which also lost at home to Zhejiang Cyclone 82-107 Wednesday night. Liu Yudong had 39 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and Fan Bin added 3 three-pointers as Bayi Rockets beat Vanguard Aoshen 115-104 in Quanzhou, Fujian Province, strengthening Bayi's position as the league's top team. In Wednesday's other matches, Liaoning Hunters lost to Shanghai Sharks 96-83, Guangdong Hongyuan trounced Shandong Bulls 111-88 and Jilin Tigers beat Jiangsu Dragons 123-109.
