Sports Olympic Champions Xiong, Fu Head Chinese Divers for Sydney World Cup

Olympic champions Xiong Ni and Fu Mingxia will spearhead the 10-member Chinese team for the World Cup diving meet to be held in Sydney, Australia through Jan 25-29.

Xiong, 1996 Olympic gold medalist in the men's springboard, will again compete his specialty in Sydney and team up with Xiao Hailiang for the synchronized competition.

Fu, returning to the international scene last year, will test herself in the women's springboard in Sydney.

Fu, who was 12 when she won her first world title, quit the sport shortly after Atlanta,s platform and springboard golds at the Atlanta Games made her the first woman in 36 years to win both Olympic events, aimed another Olympic gold.

"I hope I can compete the Sydney Olympics and win my fourth title," said Fu, who now studies economics at Beijing's prestigious Qinghua University.
