Sports S. Africa Confident of Blatter's Support to Host 2006 World Cup

South Africa is still confident of the support of FIFA President Joseph Blatter in its attempt to bring the world's most prestigious sporting event to Africa for the first time, South African Press Association reported on January 18.

Jordaan, chief executive officer of the South Africa 2006 World Cup Bid Committee, said he had had a very successful meeting with Blatter in Rio de Janiero earlier this week and was confident of the continued support of the FIFA president.

Jordaan reaffirmed South Africa is the leading candidate on the African continent for hosting the great sporting event.

Any doubt about Blatter's attitude to African soccer would be dispelled by the FIFA president's upcoming address to the Confederation of African Football's congress in Accra, Ghana next Thursday, Jordaan added. (Xinhua)
