Culture 500-Year-Old Historic Site Under Protection in Beijing

Xian Nong Tan, the historic site where ancient Chinese emperors came to worship the god of agriculture, is under protection, and no one is allowed to live there, according to officials of the Beijing municipal government.

The site is more than 500 years old and cover an area of 70,000 square meters. A dozen halls, temples, palaces, and other buildings are well-preserved at the location after hundreds of years.

At present, about 140 families and several enterprises are living and running business there, but they have been told to move out of the site no later than the end of this year. And officials have said the government will spend over ten million yuan to relocate them in order to maintain the ancient buildings and protect the surrounding environment.
