China Central Government, Citizens Show Concern for Quake Victims

The central authorities and citizens from all walks of life have expressed their concern for victims of two earthquakes which rocked Yunnan Province in southwest China on January 15.

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the State Council have pledged to fully support the rescue and relief efforts in the quake-affected areas.

The central authorities have also asked that arrangements be made to house, feed and clothe those residents affected.

The State Council sent a message Saturday afternoon to express deep concern for affected people and heartfelt thanks to relief workers there.

According to the State Seismological Bureau, earthquakes measuring 5.9 and 6.5 on the Richter scale rocked Yao'an County of Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture at 06:09 and 07:37 Saturday.

Various organizations and people across the country are mobilizing quake-relief efforts and donations have started to flow into the quake-hit areas.
