Sci-Tech First Online Auction of Chinese Web Addresses

On January 11, the Chinese online auction website YaBuy.com announced that it helped Chinese website 3721.com sell the rights to use the web addresses for the Chinese terms "software download," "free email" and "vacant position."

3721.com has developed a free software program that allows users to enter web addresses in Chinese. To date, the program has been downloaded more than 800,000 times.

Between January 6-10, 2000, 3721.com auctioned off three Chinese website addresses on the YaBuy.com website.

Zhaopin.com paid 41,000 yuan for the right to use the Chinese web address for "vacant position." Chinaren.com and Soyou.com both paid 24,000 yuan for the right to use the Chinese web address of "free email" and "software download" respectively.

YaBuy.com earned 3% commission for its role in the online auction.
