China Beijing, Shanghai Leaders Exchange Views on Future Cooperation

Leaders from Shanghai, the country's leading industrial and commercial center, and Beijing, the capital, exchanged views in Beijing over the past three days on their cooperation in future development of the two cities.

The Shanghai delegation, which left here for home tonight, is led by Huang Ju, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and secretary of the Shanghai Municipal CPC Committee, and Xu Kuangdi, the mayor of Shanghai.

During their stay in Beijing, Jia Qinglin, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the Beijing Municipal CPC Committee, Liu Qi,the mayor of Beijing briefed the Shanghai delegation on Beijing's economic situation for 1999 and plans for 2000.

The Shanghai delegation also briefed their Beijing counterparts about the economic situation in Shanghai. In the first half of the year, Jia Qinglin also led a municipal delegation to Shanghai. (Xinhua)
