China Guangdong Province to Build a New Expressway

A new expressway from Yangjiang to Dianbai in Guangdong Province of south China will start construction in late 2000 and will be completed and put into operation in 2003.

The expressway will be part of a planned national highway network that will help connect Tongjiang City in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province with Sanya on the southern tip of Hainan Island Province in the far south.

According to local sources, the expressway will have a total length of 83 km. It will have four lanes with a speed limit of 120 km per hour.

The project will cost about three billion yuan, 70 percent of which will be financed by the Hongyuan Group, a conglomerate of Guangdong Province, accccordidng to an agreement signed recently between the group and the Guangdong Provincial Expressways Company.

Thanks to China's reform and open-up drive, Guangdong Province has become one of the country's most prosperous regions. It has lavished huge investment for constructing infrastructure of transportation, including many expressways. (Xinhua)
