Sports Chinese Gong Defeats World Champion Martin at Badminton GP

China's Gong Zhichao swept aside Denmark's world champion Camilla Martin on Friday at the Brunei badminton world grand prix finals, making the women's singles semi-finals all-Chinese affairs.

Martin, the Danish world number six, crashed to the Chinese world number three 6-11, 7-11 in the Group C decider.

Gong's semi-final opponent Saturday will be the 1997 grand prix finals winner and world number two Ye Zhaoying, who beat South Korean Kim Ji-Hyun to top Group B.

World number one Dai Yun made short work of Japan's Yasuko Mizui 11-6, 11-8 in group A to arrange a semi-final showdown with Group D winner Zhou Mi, the Chinese world number five.

The season-ending Brunei event features the world's top 16 men's singles players, the top 12 women and the top eight doubles exponents in the men, women, and mixed disciplines.
