Sports 2002 World Cup Mascots Unveiled

Futuristic characters called Atmos were unveiled on Wednesday as the official mascots of the 2002 World Cup finals.

The fantasy figures were introduced in an animated cartoon as The Great Atmo Leader, a golden, translucent figure, who was accompanied by two Young Atmos, one purple and one ultramarine.

FIFA, world soccer ruling body, said the mascots reflected the hi-tech reputation of co-hosts Japan and South Korea. (Xinhua)
