Saturday, November 20, 1999, updated at 10:59(GMT+8) Sports China Beats DPR Korea 3-0 in Semifinals Defending champion China overwhelmed DPR Korea with a clinical 3-0 semifinal win Friday in the 12th Asian Women's Soccer Championship at the Panaad Sports Complex field in Bacolod City, Philippines. In the other semifinal match, Chinese Taipei turned the tables on Japan by fashioning a 2-0 upset. In a game that showcased the top level of the Asian women's soccer, the Chinese dominated from start to finish while the DPR Korea could not pierce the Chinese defensive wall no matter how they tried. Wang Liping opened the scoring for China in the 18th minute, when she netted from pointblank range. DPR Korea goalie Kim Un Ok, who parried off Wang's first blast, could only see the ball bounced onto Wang's path for her to score. With midfielder Wen Lirong, who was cited as the player of the game, orchestrating the attack, China scored its second goal through a volley from Liu Ailing in the 56th minute. Sun Wen struck inside the goal area for China's third and final goal in the 77th minute. China will face Chinese Taipei in Sunday's final at 3 p.m. local time, following the match for third place between the DPR.
