Sports China Beat Kazakhstan 9-0 in Asian Cup Women's Soccer

Chinese striker Liu Ying went on a scoring blitz as China crushed Kazakhstan 9-0 Thursday for its third straight victory to remain on top of Group B in Bacolod City, the Philippines in the 12th Asian Women's Football Championship.

Liu became the first player in the elimination series to score six goals in powering the Chinese closer to their seventh consecutive crown.

The other scorers for China were Jin Yan with two goals and Wang Liping with one.

The Kazakhs conceded their second straigt loss in three outings to bow out of contention.

Over in Iloilo, DPR Korea carved out a 5-1 triumph over Malaysia to book a semifinal slot.

Playing it safe to avoid injuries in a run-up to its key Group A clash with Chinese Taipei on Saturday, the DPR Koreans worked just hard enough to overpower the winless Malaysians and registered their third win in a row.

The Chinese Taipei team rallied from a 0-1 deficit to scramble past Vietnam 4-1, in the other match played under a steady drizzle and also remain unbeaten after two games.

Due to the wear and tear caused by the continuous showers on the Iloilo Stadium field, organizers have moved one of the daily matches to nearby Barotac Nuevo, a 30-minute drive from the city, and also revised the schedules.

Starting Friday, matches will be held at 2 p.m. at Barotac Nuevo and 3 p.m. at the Iloilo Stadium.
