Culture Asian Music Festival Scheduled for Shanghai

The '99 Shanghai Asian Music Festival is set for November 27 to 30 in Shanghai.

This event, a major part of the ongoing Shanghai International Art Festival, will feature an Asian singing contest, a Chinese song contest, and a symposium on prospects for Asian singers in the 21st century.

A vocal concert to promote anti-piracy will also be staged.

Composers, singers, music producers, and representatives of media organizations from Singapore, Japan, the Republic of Korea and other Asian countries will participate in the music festival.

Zhang Ming, secretary-general of the music festival's organizing committee, said the festival is intended to help foster young singers and promote Asian music.
