China China Opposes Attempts to Develop TMD

China reiterated its opposition on November 18 to any attempts to develop the Theater Missile Defense( TMD), and stressed that China did not, does not and will never engage in arms race.

In reply to a question at a press conference, Foreign Ministry spokesman Sun Yuxi said that to develop the TMD at a time when ten years has passed since the end of the Cold War runs counter to the trend of times, and is not conducive to arms control and disarmament, and will also have a negative impact on regional and world strategic balance and stability in the 21st century.

He said that China has stood for complete prohibition and thorough destruction of strategic nuclear arms, and China's limited nuclear strength is only for self-defense, and China does not pose any threat to any country, adding that China has the resolve and ability to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
