China South China Celebrates 133rd Birth Anniversary of Sun Yat-sen

A memorial hall was opened on November 12 in to celebrate the 133rd birth anniversary of revolutionary fore-runner Sun Yat-sen (1866.11.12-1925) in the city of Zhongshan, Sun's birthplace in south China's Guangdong province.

The opening ceremony was held in front of Sun's former residence, which is next to the memorial hall.

The municipal government of Zhongshan has invested 40 million yuan (4.8 million US dollars) in the construction of the hall.

Government leaders, representatives of other democratic parties, and Sun's relatives all participated in the ceremony.

The hall covers 6,000 square meters with walls of white granite and a light-blue enamel tile roof.

There are three exhibition rooms displaying detailed information on Sun's life, including his revolutionary experiences, thoughts and theories, and his followers and relatives.

Documents reflecting relations between Sun and Macao are also now on display.

The hall is equipped with advanced devices such as computer-controlled air conditioning, a constant temperature and humidity control system, closed-circuit television, and a multimedia display system.
