Sports Hingis into Quarter-finals at Philadelphia Open

World number one Martina Hingis of Switzerland demolished American Chanda Rubin 6-3, 6-0 to reach the quarter-finals of the Advanta Championship in Philadelphia on Wednesday.

Hingis, who received a first round bye, is using the event as a tuneup for next week's season-ending Chase WTA Championships in New York.

In Wednesday's other matches, fifth-seeded Julie Halard-Decugis of France defeated Venezuela's Maria Vento 6-1, 6-4; American Lisa Raymond downed Henrietta Nagyova of Slovakia 2-6, 6-3, 6-3; American Jennifer Capriati rallied for a 7-5, 6-3 victory over 16- year-old Kim Clijsters of Belgium.
