Education Prestigious School of Journalism Celebrates 70th Anniversary

The School of Journalism at Fudan University in Shanghai, known as "the cradle of China's journalists," celebrated its 70th anniversary on November 7 on the campus.

About 1,000 people participated in the celebrations. The First Beijing-Shanghai Symposium on Journalism and the 6th National Symposium on Communication were also held during the celebrations.

Fudan's Department of Journalism, the predecessor of the School of Journalism, was established in 1929, and was the first to train journalists in China.

During the past 70 years, the school has turned out more than 12,000 graduates, many of who have become excellent journalists and leaders of media organizations.

The School of Journalism was established in 1988 as the first of its kind in China. It now consists of the Department of Journalism, the Research Institute of Journalism, and the Research Center of Culture and Communication.

The subjects taught at the school include journalism, broadcasting and television, advertising, and international Journalism. At present, there are over 500 full-time students enrolled, including more than 70 postgraduates and 20 foreign students.

In 1999, a postdoctoral center of journalism, the first in China, was established at the school. (Xinhua)
