Thursday, November 04, 1999, updated at 11:29(GMT+8) One of China's economic powerhouses, Jiangsu province in east China, is trying to get Chinese students who have studied abroad and have scientific and technological expertise to work in the province. A regulation provides opportunities for returned students who want to put their skills and expertise to work. A local education official said that the province will encourage these students to give lectures, conducting scientific research projects, promoting technology, set up companies and invest in local firms. A series of favorable policies are expected to facilitate the relocation of overseas students and include attractive salaries, reduced taxes and lower housing rent. Nanjing has set up a special fund to improve living and working conditions for returned students and to aid them to attend international exchange and cooperation programs.
