(ECNS) - Over 40 percent of consumers believe online sales promotions are over-hyped and offer no significant discounts. However, about 60 percent still follow such promotions when shopping online, according to two surveys.
Hoping for better deals, 64.3 percent of consumers follow E-business promotions, according to a survey by China News Service (CNS). Another survey conducted by a market analysis company called "Data100" says 59.4 percent of consumers would do so.
Online sales events face doubts from consumers and are thought to be over-hyped (92.3 percent from CNS and 49.7 percent from Data100). In comparison, 7.7 percent (CNS) and 50.3 percent (Data100) of consumers believe those events offer sweet deals.
According to CNS, 69.2 percent of consumers believe prices are almost the same with or without the sales events, while 30.8 percent of consumers say things are cheaper.
Data100 found that 47.6 percent of those polled see no price differences, while 44.1 percent think the deals are better. It is also worth noting that another 8.4 percent of consumers believe prices go up instead of down during such promotions.
China's e-commerce market hit 13.4 trillion yuan ($2.2 trillion) in 2014, up 31.4 percent year on year.
