A Filipino baby girl, weighing 2.9 kilograms, was born aboard China's navy hospital ship Peace Ark on November 28. In order to express gratitude to Chinese doctors, her father named her "Chinese rose".

The ship departed to the disaster areas hit by typhoon Haiyan, also known as Yolanda locally, on Nov. 21 and returned home on Dec. 15. In the mission that lasted over 20 days, the Peace Ark witnessed birth of our babies.

The cooperation between the Peace Ark and the Philippine side did not go smoothly at first, although the Philippine government hoped China's hospital ship to perform medical rescue mission.

The Philippine Navy did not send a representative to meet the Peace Ark when the ship arrived at the Leyte Gulf. It took the Peace Ark two hours to find the Philippine Navy. At the beginning, the Philippine Navy did not provide any support to the Peace Ark. After active negotiation and coordination with the Philippine Navy, four liaison officers, including medical workers, were sent to the ship. They lived on the ship and gradually understood the mission of the Peace Ark.

Since then, some Philippine military officials boarded the ship to conduct exchange. Germany, South Korea, Canada and the United States also transferred their patients to the navy hospital ship.
