During more than eight months since China's new leadership took office, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang have visited 22 countries covering Europe, Asia and Africa and the U.S. At the same time, they have received 64 heads of state or government and held talks with more than 300 foreign dignitaries. A total of 800 cooperative agreements have been signed between China and other countries. It is noteworthy that China has conducted high-level exchanges with 21 neighboring countries.
This year, China's new leadership launched a new ideal of diplomacy. China has promoted the integration between the "Chinese Dream", with the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation as its core, and the "World Dream", proposing a strategy of mutual benefit and a commitment to maintaining a just position on diplomatic interests.
In addition, China and the U.S. reached an important consensus on the construction of a new form of relationship among major countries. There has been substantial progress in comprehensive strategic cooperative relations between China and Russia, and China-EU cooperation has reached a new level.
In 2013, China launched a series of proposals for diplomatic cooperation, including the construction of the "Silk Road economic zone" and the "21st Century Marine Silk Road" as well as upgrading the China - ASEAN Free Trade Area.
The world has high expectations of China's diplomacy in 2014. China will maintain the overall pattern of its diplomacy from 2013, while the following two characteristics are expected in 2014.
First, China will create a closer relationship with the countries on its periphery through mutually beneficial cooperation, and implement measures and proposals on "bringing harmony, security and prosperity to neighbors".
Second, China will raise pragmatic cooperation with the U.S., Russia, and the EU, and with other emerging countries, to a new level. Sino-US bilateral investment agreement is expected to make substantive progress; Sino-Russian cooperation in the fields of investment, energy, high-tech innovation has the potential to achieve new breakthroughs. In the implementation of the "2020 Strategic Plan", China and the EU will move forward; among the BRICS, the establishment of the BRICS Development Bank and the foreign exchange reserve are expected to achieve positive progress.
China will hold two important meetings next year, the Asian Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures (CICA) Summit in Shanghai in May and the APEC Leaders' Informal Meeting in Beijing. The two events are expected to be a model of positive interaction between China and the rest of the world.
