Chinese vice premier meets former U.S. secretary of state

BEIJING, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Vice Premier Liu Yandong on Thursday met with former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright.

Liu said China-U.S. relations are in a historic period of development. She said that both sides should work to promote pragmatic cooperation, deepen people-to-people exchanges and consolidate a social basis for building a new type of relations that features equality, mutual trust, tolerance, mutual learning and cooperation.

Albright said she has been glad to see the progress made in bilateral relations, adding that she is willing to play a positive role in boosting bilateral cooperation.
