BEIJING, March 18 (Xinhua) -- China and France have sufficient potential and space for cooperation in bilateral and multilateral fields, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in a phone call with his French counterpart Laurent Fabius on Monday.
Calling China-France relations of global significance, Wang hoped the two sides could work together to explore a new path for win-win cooperation between countries with different ideologies, political systems and traditional cultures, and implement the China-France comprehensive strategic partnership.
Fabius congratulated Wang on his appointment as China's foreign minister and said France valued the France-China comprehensive strategic partnership.
France was willing to work together with China to take the opportunity of the 50th anniversary of France-China diplomatic ties in 2014 to deepen bilateral cooperation in various fields, strengthen communications on major international issues and further advance the relations between the two countries, Fabius said.
Wang was appointed foreign minister at the first session of the 12th National People's Congress, China's legislative body, on Saturday.
