Hong Kong Secretary for Labour and Welfare Matthew Cheung said Monday that the city's government is seriously exploring the idea of providing a low-income supplement for working families with particularly dependent children.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Cheung said the idea is to promote employment and self-reliance, and help children, particularly those at school, to tackle intergenerational poverty.
He said it is an important policy and the government will consider public proposals, including those by non-Government organizations and political parties.
"We will seriously examine them. We will take this idea back to the Commission on Poverty with a view to coming up with some concrete measures in the context of the Chief Executive's Policy Address next January," he said.
