HONG KONG, Sept. 9 -- 2013 BOAO Youth Forum (Hong Kong) kicked off on Monday, with more than 1,000 participants exchanging ideas on Asian economic trends, education and culture.

This year's forum, themed "Creative Youth, Innovative Asia: joining Hands for a Better Future," explores economic trends of Hong Kong and Asia, as well as the booming culture of Asia societies. Business leaders, government officials, scholars and media leaders together with more than 1,000 youth representatives gathered at the forum.

Clarence Leung, consultant of the 2013 BOAO Youth Forum (Hong Kong) organizing committee, said that after the financial tsunami, Asia is one of the most paramount engines of economic recovery.

"With the world recently placing increasing emphasis on creative industries, the Asian economy should leverage on innovation to drive economic development," he said, adding that "we need to inspire the youths with creativity and innovation in order to create a better future."

Chairmen of the forum's organizing committee, Diana Chen and Alex Yeung shared their views that it is a good opportunity for Hong Kong's youths to "gain insights on Asia's future economic driving force and immense potentials of creativity, based on wisdom imparted by the speakers."

Jointly organized by Boao Forum for Asia and the Youth Elites Association, BOAO Youth Forum has been held in Hong Kong since 2009.

The forum is designed for brainstorming and clashing of ideas on issues regarding social development, economy, culture, education, environment, as well as technology and innovation, adding the youths' perspective to Boao Forum for Asia.
