Chinese police had captured 6.19 tonnes of narcotics and seized 18,900 suspects as of Sept. 18 in a special crackdown on drugs.
These suspects were linked to more than 15,000 cases that have been cracked, and the volume of drugs seized has seen an increase of 78.8 percent year on year, according to a statement released on Friday by the Ministry of Public Security.
"The action focuses on drugs smuggled into the country, drug-making, drug-dealing, control of precursor chemicals and drug users," said Vice Minister Li Wei, referring to a 100-day crackdown that started on Aug 8.
Noting that drug crimes are still rampant in some regions, Li vowed that the ministry will strengthen its crackdown on drugs entering and exiting the country and improve measures to uncover drug users.
