President Xi Jinping has vowed efforts to ensure education opportunities for every Chinese child to mark the first anniversary of the UN Global Education First Initiative.
"China will strive to let its 1.3 billion people enjoy a better, fairer education, and acquire abilities to develop themselves, contribute to society and benefit the people," said the president via a video for an anniversary event held on Wednesday in New York, headquarters of the United Nations.
Xi said that the Chinese government and people will firmly support the initiative led by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
China has 260 million students and 15 million teachers, leading Xi to admit, "The task of developing the educational cause is arduous."
But he said China will resolutely implement the strategy of reinvigorating the country through science and education and will always give priority to education development.
The president promised to further expand educational investment and advance the nation's universal and life-long education.
He also said China will strengthen exchanges with other countries in the education field and actively support the development of educational causes in less-developed countries.
