For last four students, teacher couple sticks to post on island

There is a solitary island in Hunan province covering an area of 2,000 square meters. Because many residents on the island are surnamed Guo, the island is named after Guo. There is only one primary school at the center of the island. Guo Kaifeng and his wife Hu Yezhi are the only teachers in the school. They have been working in the school for more than seven years.

Different from past years, only four students registered in this semester. In 1970s, Guo Kaifeng was born on the island and he studied in the same primary school when he was a child. After his graduation from Yiyang Normal University, a local university for training teachers, Guo became a teacher in the primary school in 1997. In 2002, Guo was assigned to teach middle school students and met his wife Hu Yezhi.

Later in 2007, the only teacher in the primary school was about to retire. Therefore, Guo and his wife offered to be teachers in the primary school. At that time, there were more than 30 students from grade one to grade four. The couple combined two classes into one. Guo gave lessons of math, P.E, ethics and science while his wife gave lessons of Chinese, English, music and arts to the students.

The ceiling of the classroom is reinforced by the couple with Nylon and wooden materials. And they also raised money and glazed glasses for the door and windows. After a road was built between the Guo Island and the town, many parents sent their children to the school in town. The primary school became a forgotten corner. Only four students attend school in this semester.
