A man in Hangzhou City in east China's Zhejiang Province texted police to donate his body and organs to science before committing suicide, it was announced Wednesday.
"I have decided to donate my body and all my organs to charity. When you receive my message, I will already be dead. Sorry for bothering you," reads the message on the police alarm platform at about 4:21 a.m. on Monday.
The man was later found hanging from an outdoor air conditioning unit outside his rented house in Yuhang district, according to the police.
A wheelchair was by his side. A walking stick and two notes were on the wheelchair.
Police cut the rope and administered first aid, but doctors confirmed that the man, surnamed Wang, had died at the scene.
Wang suffered from muscular dystrophy and had just turned 30. He felt he could not live on his own and felt he had suffered enough, according to the police.
At the same time, Wang wanted to make his final contribution to the society.
"My last and biggest wish is to donate all my useful organs and body to charity. I hope you respect my choice," reads the note.
According to his wishes, Wang's family contacted the local Red Cross but failed to make the donation as Wang had not applied in advance and did not take the necessary check-up.
