SMS (Short message service) (File Photo)

The first SMS (Short message service) message was successful sent from PC to mobile phone by UK’s Vodafone network in 1992. Nobody could predict that the SMS would become so popular, while the telecom operators’ original intention was to promote low-cost service to work out high charges of mobile phone in those years. But the problem of using SMS for communication is that one sometimes receives unprotected or unexpected messages, and the sender’s information cannot be identified.

Although SMS is still the most widely used messaging application, more and more people prefer to use instant message (IM) apps for contact, instead of short message service. In China’s mobile apps market, there are quite a few applications. They can offer video call, send photo and video, group chat, and identify location. These applications are handy to use and make communication easily; best of all, it could save money over Wi-Fi service.

As we are in the new era of communication, all application developers and operators want to have better presence in the market, so the competition between them has become fiercer in recent years.

Here are a number of domestic-operated instant messaging apps, what is your favorite?
