A 14-year-old girl spent all her savings on a trip to see a man she had known online for a week, Qianjiang Evening News reported on Sunday.

The girl, from Pingdingshan in Henan province, turned up on July 1 at a hotel in Yuhang district in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, more than 1,000 kilometers away from her home. She told the hotel owner that she had no money left on her.

The hotel owner, surnamed He, provided the girl with accommodation and called the police, who helped contact her parents.

When the girl was about to leave with money sent by her brother, the man she met online, who is in his 20s and worked near the hotel, turned up.

The girl returned home and promised not to run away again.
