CHENGDU, July 1 (Xinhua)-- Five people died and six others remain missing in southwest China's Sichuan Province after torrential rain-triggered floods and landslides occurred on Monday, local authorities said.
The heavy rain, which started on Saturday, is still hitting some parts of the province, including the Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture and the cities of Suining, Nanchong, Ziyang and Neijiang.
The central and western parts of the Sichuan Basin have seen precipitation reach 200 to 300 mm and some regions may experience as much as 500 mm of rain, the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters said.
The provincial meteorological center said the heavy rain will continue until noon Tuesday.
