2013 China-Italy Food Safety Dialogue was held in Italian Embassy in Beijing on June 19, 2013 during the National Food Safety Awareness Week in China.
Officials in China's food safety department, officials from Health Department of Italian government and over a hundred enterprises in food industry from two countries participated in the dialogue.
China-Italy Food Safety Dialogue aimed to build a platform of communication between the two governments, between the governments and enterprises and between enterprises of the two countries. It will also contribute to promote the cooperation and exchanges between the two countries in food safety laws and policies, in food safety technology and regulation, in consumer protection and other aspects.
Wang Xudong, CEO of Economic Daily Online said during the conference that former Chinese President Hu Jingtao and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang had proposed to promote the cooperation and exchanges between China and European countries on food safety. The proposal had been supported by European countries and enterprises. Chinese and Italian governments attached same importance to food safety problem. There was much potential for the cooperation of the two countries on the area.

Silvio Borrello, general director for food safety department of Italian Ministry of Health; Zong Qinghou, president of Wahaha Group; Daniele Rossi, director of Italian Food Industry Federation and other officials and entrepreneurs in food domain had made speeches. Facing the problem of unfavorable prices of Italian food on Chinese market, entrepreneurs suggested that the two governments should launch FTA negotiations to optimize food trade environment.
