BEIJING, June 19 (Xinhua) -- The State Council, China's cabinet, has listed a food safety law amendment as the nation's legislative work for 2013, the China Food and Drug Administration announced on Wednesday.

The government agency said that it has also started soliciting public opinions on the amendment.

It said that the amendment aims to enhance the effectiveness of food safety supervision and ensure the security of people's health.

The current food safety law has been in place for more than four years after taking effect on June 1, 2009.
